The activities and characteristics of the Canadian economy's producing units are surveyed by various divisions of Statistics Canada. The Standard Industrial Classification is a system for arranging comparable producing units into "industries". An industry is defined as a group of establishments whose production represents a homogeneous set of goods and services, or who are engaged in the same or a similar kind of activity.
