Through a collage of family photographs, photocopies and personal audio recordings, Verburg creates a layered and obstructed narrative exploring memory and family history. The film explores the fragility of personal memory, and photos as physical tokens of that memory: storytelling is often an act of emotional encryption that leaves younger generations to decipher what has and has not been communicated to them. This animated short was made for Hothouse 5, the NFB's program for emerging filmmakers, whose central theme was "The Time I Changed My Mind".
