During the fur trade era, the Mechif of the Great Northern Plains established themselves as a key people in the transportation of goods for personal use and for business. Their long treks by snowshoe, canoe, horseback and Red River carts were legendary. Today, the Mechif maintain this tradition of working in transportation.
