"Set in London, Canada, Sweden, and Yugoslavia, with a tear across Europe transporting a certain contraband across the Iron Curtain in the 1960s, this novel entertains and enthralls as it examines issues of transgression, justice, revenge, motherhood, and tribal identity. The protagonist, Lisa Grankvist, is a Swede who settles in London during the 1960s, where she indulges in the antics and swinging goings-on of the times without taking the scene, or herself, too seriously. Holmstrom's London of the 1960s is well realized and convincing, with John Lennon, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, and others playing bit-parts in this drama, none of whom impress Lisa as much as do her own close friends. A marriage to a Canadian takes Lisa to Canada for a couple of decades, and a variety of circumstances eventually bring her back to London and Sweden, where the plot of her life reaches full circle"
